Newcastle loansharks session
October 17, 2012 in Training Events by Movement for Change
Date: 23 October 2012
Tuesday 23rd October
Beacon Centre in Newcastle (http://www.thebeaconnewcastle.co.uk/contact-us.html)
19:00 to 21:00
A session to bring together groups, organisations and individuals to plan actions to highlight the impact of payday lending in Newcastle and promote fairer alternatives.
The session is being facilitated by Movement for Change, a community organising hub which has organised activists around the country to run local actions to tackle the problem of legal loansharking, in conjunction with Stella Creasy MP. It is open to all Newcastle-based community activists who want to work with others to build a local base from which to tackle the issue locally.
To organise the correct numbers for tea and coffee (and possible cakes and biscuits!), please confirm your attendance in advance by contacting us.
Most importantly, if you are (or know of another person) who has had direct personal experience of payday loan companies you/they will be most welcome, to help shape the action from the outset.

Re the event at Beacon Centre. Both I and the Chief Exec of moneywise credit union will be attending. In addition to being the North East’s largest credit union, we are currently undertaking some third sector research for VONNE, on policy issues related to debt and the role of the credit unions. Therefore with workshops about to be announced on this, we have something substantial to bring to the table.
